Mission Board

Since the late 1970s, there has been a zeal for active mission involvement among the leaders of the Church. In fact, some evangelists had traveled as far as Bangladesh and the plains of Assam in Mikir Hills (Karbi Anglong today) even in the 1960s. Actually, Rev. J.J M Nichols-Roy had gone to Orissa, Kerela and different parts of India in the beginning of the 20th century to preach the Gospel.

It was through the untiring effort of Rev. B.R. Sohkhia after his theological training in Union Biblical Seminary that inspired the decision making body of the church to take Missions seriously, although everyone is aware of the vision of Rev. (L) J.J.M. Nichols-Roy who had said, "A time will come when the Church of God in Khasi Jaintia would send missionaries to different parts of the world".

It was in the consultation of Pastors and church workers and leaders in the meetings in May 13th -14th, 1980 that with one mind and spirit a decision is made to open a department in the Church that would focus on Missions and Church planting outside the state and the country. To realize this unanimous decision, the meeting informed and requested the Church of God Business Association earnestly to launch this mission department which is to be known as The Mission Board, Church of God Meghalaya & Assam. With prayers and the Lord's guidance the Mission Board was formed and the first Mission Report was published on the 22nd July, 1980.
